Placing a new or repairing an old wooden roof

Wooden shingles and shakes are the best known historical traditional roofing materials, they can be used on the outer walls of outbuildings or houses too.  Shakes can also be used as food mat or as disposable sitting mat in sauna. Traditional historical roofs are appreciated and in fashion again. Shingle and shake roofs have been traditionally used for several centuries already.

We provide shingles for new as well as old roofs or walls. Correct placing makes a shingled roof a durable wooden roof. The roof can be left natural to let it turn grey like a log with ageing. This is the natural means of protection of wood. You can brush the roof with tar oil. Two square meters require one litre of tar oil and taring must be repeated in a few years. Good tolerance of sunlight and superb attachment of tar oil are features that make aspen, spine and spruce a good choice for making roofing shingles and shake.

The durability of shingled roof is approximately 60-100 years and shakes 40-60 years, it depending on many factors.
